Children Pre-K to Eighth Grade

Our Sunday School program includes instruction for children in grades pre-K through 8th.   Sunday School classes are held during the Traditional Service of Worship at 10:30 a.m.   Our curriculum based on a "Rotation" model, where children visit different stations like StoryTelling, Arts & Crafts, Music, and Godly Games.  First Communion instruction is given to children in grade 3 and up.  Confirmation classes are held each year for those students in grade 9 and up.  Childcare for infants is provided in our nursery during the Sunday service.   Please come meet our staff and Sunday School teachers when you visit.

 Sunday School News

Sunday School Gears Up for a New Year
     Our Sunday School starts up again on Sunday, September 12th.  We will have Sunday School upstairs and afterwards, back by popular demand, hotdogs and popcorn in the Social Hall!  Please stop by our Sunday School Registration Table, where we will have Registration Forms available, as well as CORI forms (these need to be completed by anyone who even thinks they may volunteer upstairs during the school year).  You will need a copy of your driver's license  for the CORI form.

Rally Day: September 12, 2010
Fall is right around the corner, and with that comes the start of Sunday School!  Rally Day is scheduled for Sunday, September 12th.  Registration forms for Sunday School can be found in this issue of Steeple Tidings, (please bring with you on Rally Day or mail to the church office) as noted above, forms will also be available on Rally Day. 

We need volunteers on Rally Day with the following:
Hot Dog and Popcorn Machine: Help!  We need at least two volunteers, one to man the hot dog machine and one for the popcorn.  Doesn’t this sound like FUN???
Registration Table: We need at least two volunteers to help at the Registration Table, with the registration forms and CORI forms, and also to help us spread the word of the different volunteer opportunities upstairs!

Our Sunday School program needs your help! 
We currently have two positions open that we need filled:
Sunday School Teacher
Grades 3 and 4 Classroom with Heidi Holmes, 
     No experience necessary!  We just need someone who loves children and wants to be part of our Sunday School Community!   If you are interested, or simply want to know more about this rewarding position, please contact either Betsy Wencl at beane651@comcast.net or Heide Holmes at hyanakakis@yahoo.com.

Now Hiring Superintendent of Sunday School—No Pay, Great Rewards
This position is currently open and we are looking for one—or two—organized people to oversee our Sunday School. Duties are:
o Be available on Sunday mornings to greet families, especially if they are new to church or need assistance finding the rooms, etc. Lead the Sunday school group upstairs after the Children’s Sermon.
o Keep the attendance rosters updated. New registration forms need to be copied and given to the classroom teacher. Attendance folders must be given to each teacher and then collected at the end of class.
o Notify each classroom teacher when the 5 minute signal is heard.
o Turn off all hall lights and copier machine at the end of Sunday school.
o Organize curriculum as it arrives, giving each teacher their level.
o Occasionally, make copies of activity sheets during class time, if teacher needs more.

o Keep in touch with the secretary about special Sunday school schedules (for example, no Sunday school or a special activity)

 Youth Group Minimize
Youth Groups Forming 
During the last week of July, a group of young people and adults got together to talk about creating a new youth ministry at Central Church. We answered several simple questions about our ministry with young people: ―Why a Youth Group at Central? ―What Would We Like the Group to Do? and ―Who Would Be Involved? 
Here are some of the answers:
Why? ―It’s important to keep youth involved in church. ―Fellowship and Leadership Development ―To have fun ―To develop a spiritual life and help kids give back to the community ―To bring like minds together ―To build relationships; make connections and share thoughts and ideas in a safe space.
What? ―Community Service, Something for Central and Something Fun ―Not a lot—just meet and keep it simple ―Guided but self-organizing ―Theme nights ―Games, food, movie discussions ―Sleepover ―Talent event ―Halloween event ―Whitewater rafting
Who? On the last question, we agreed that there need to be two groups—one for Middle School and one for High School youth. Fortunately, several of the adults at the meeting were prepared to volunteer to help form two separate groups.
