Third Annual Peace in the Park 
September 19th, 2010
Waterfront Park   1PM to 4PM
Peace in the Park is sponsored by the Kids As Peacemakers organization. Their aim is to call attention and support from Newburyport and surrounding communities to the United Nations International Day of Peace, and the World Council of Churches International Day of Prayer for Peace. Millions of people around the world observe theses dual International Days of Peace, occurring on the same day.
The goal of Kids As Peacemakers is to interest young people in this area to participate in planning the program, and performing in youth bands, dance groups, etc.

Churches, schools and social groups are invited to host tables and provide peaceful activities for kids and teens. To avoid duplications, groups must report their projective activities to Lynn Kinsella, 978 235 1581. Central Church is invited to participate in special observation of this Peace in the Park.

at Central Church

Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States, and this catastrophic event can strike without warning. In fact, four out of five people who have had a stroke showed no apparent warning signs prior to their attack. But, strokes can be stopped in their tracks. 
On Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Central Congregational Church located there will be a Life Line Screening preventive health event to scan for the risk of stroke and other vascular conditions. 
Do you have high cholesterol or high blood pressure or a family history of cardiovascular disease? If you answer ―yes‖ to any of these questions, you may want to consider being screened for your risk of stroke through the services of Life Line Screening. Life Line Screening uses ultrasound technology to view the plaque build up in your carotid arteries, the main arteries that carry blood to the brain, and offers other, similar tests that check for related vascular disease. 
The mission of Life Line Screening is to make people aware of an undetected health problem and encourage them to seek follow up care with their physician. They are dedicated to providing the highest quality preventive screenings at affordable rates.

It is time to begin gathering your attic treasures. Bring us your items that you no longer use or because you have moved or downsized!

Suggested items include:

DVD’s 
Out-of-date electronics 
Clothing

Please place your donations in reusable boxes or bags (marked - "Attic Treasures") in the Social Hall (the wall nearest the offices) beginning Thursday, October 14th.

 December 4th - Christmas is Coming... Minimize

Holiday Tidings Fair

This year we are going to try something new. Attic Treasures will be held on Saturday, October 30th, in the Social Hall. Start saving all your treasures. Help, both men and women will be needed the week of the sale.

On December 4th, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., we will be having our "Holiday Tidings" Christmas Fair, utilizing the Social Hall and upstairs classrooms. It was suggested to bring back the "Famous Central Church Fish Chowder". Help, both financially and services, will be needed on this.

Workshops for All!

Workshops are being held on the second Tuesday at 6:30 p. m - 8:00 p.m. as well as the third Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. All are welcome to any of the workshops.

Time for All Chairpersons to Meet

On Sunday, September 26th, at 11:30 a.m., I would like to meet with the chairpersons of each table in the library.

Let's all work together for a bigger and better Attic Treasures and Christmas Fair. We especially would like to enlist a team of strong-bodied workers to set up for the fair on Thursday, December 2nd and Friday, December 3rd and to cleanup on Fair Day.

 Christmas Fair Crafts! Minimize
Arts & Crafts Needs for the Christmas Fair

The Arts and Crafts group is almost ready to start working on projects for the Christmas Fair. We would appreciate donations any of the following items to use in our projects. Please leave any of the items on the table in the Youth Room upstairs.
Items needed are:
 
·         Yarn
·         Used Christmas cards
·         Empty glass junior baby food jars
·         Fabric—scraps, odd pieces
·         White Buttons—2 sizes 3/4‖ & 1‖ w/4 holes
·         Ribbons—assorted colors, particularly Christmas colors
·         Christmas beads
·         Pillows to cover—up to 16‖ squares
·         Small terra cotta pots
·         Felt—for tree skirts & appliqués
